About The Cruising Club
The Cruising Club History
The Cruising Club was founded in New Zealand in 1986 as the first business in the world to offer syndicated (or timeshare) boat ownership to the boating community at Lake Taupo. The concept quickly expanded to Auckland with four boats from 26ft to 42ft at three marina locations. Our 40th anniversary will be celebrated in 2026 at our current locations on Sydney Harbour. Launched in Australia in 1998, with more than a dozen boats operating from Birkenhead Point, Birchgrove, Rushcutters Bay, Spit Bridge, Pittwater and Brooklyn Marinas, the concept was then franchised back into New Zealand, Queensland, West Australia, Victoria, Thailand and Hong Kong. Founder Mark Cairney sold the Australian business in 2008, and moved to Fort Lauderdale with his eldest son, who subsequently joined the US Navy and served onboard the aircraft carrier USS George Washington, to launch the franchise in the USA. The Global Financial Crisis severely crippled the marine industry in the US and Mark returned to Australia in 2010, and subsequently reclaimed the business IT and IP to be relaunched later in the decade.
How it works
The Cruising Club Fractional Boat Ownership offers boat owners the opportunity to own ten or twenty percent of a gorgeous cruiser on Sydney Harbour for just a fraction of the purchase and maintenance cost of owning the whole boat. A 10% equity share entitles the owner to use their boat for 30 days every year, and to a pro-rata refund when the boat is sold at the end of its useful life. A monthly maintenance contribution is then paid to the Management Company by each owner, who manage the marina berth, insurance, registration, antifoul, mechanical upkeep, and training, cleaning, bookings etc. Ten days every four months, and owners pay for their own fuel while onboard. Multiple day bookings and overnight stays are also encouraged where requested.
Easy Harbour Access
All days are available to owners, based on a priority booking system, with the exception of Boxing Day, New Years Eve and Australia Day - where all owners are invited to join other owners on board based on prior RSVP bookings. We regularly drop in on the start line of the Sydney to Hobart race each year, and our NYE parties at Taronga have become legendary among thos owners inclined to paicipate, with built in BBQ and overnight accommodation making this event one to remember.

At The Cruising Club, our mission is to provide our customers with the best boating experience possible. Today we primarily focus on Powerboats from 30-50ft, from Australia,the UK and the USA, from manufacturers such as Sunrunner, Mustang, Riviera and Regal and Sea Ray.
New or Used?
Over the years we have purchased and marketed many new boats from Australia, New Zealand, the UK and USA. Our owners have enjoyed the experience immensely, but often were disappointed with the resale they realised on the syndicate wind up. New boats are notorious for losing up to half their value in the first three years due to depreciation! Accordingly The Cruising Club now aims to source used boats, with low hours, good maintenance records and exhibiting a respectable condition. In order to provide as high a resale value as possible.
